For routine pet care (vaccinations, heartworm tests, flea problems, etc), home care is better than clinic care. See "What is a housecall veterinary practice, and why would I want one?" for the reasons why we believe this is true.

Investing in technology, relying on skill.
The medicine we practice is individually tailored to the pet and owner. There is no "one prescription fits all" treatment. Providing care based on the recommendations of a textbook is sometimes wrong! For instance, we have a great X-ray machine. It takes better pictures than any X-ray machine we've used in any other private practice. However, for a cat with an advanced case of cancer, taking X-rays is a waste of time, effort, and money. It stresses out the cat, and the information we get from the X-ray isn't going to change our treatment plan. Even though the textbook says "always check for metastasis to the lungs," if the cancer is advanced, we rely on our experience to provide better care than the technology or textbook can offer.

As a family-owned business, we offer an unparalleled quality of care, service, and value.
Working out of our home allows us to provide first-rate care at a reasonable price. How many other general practices have a veterinarian at the clinic all night? How many times during the night do most practices check patients? For critically ill patients, one of us gets up every four hours to check each patient's condition, make sure the IV lines are running properly, and make centain the pet is as comfortable as possible. Unless you go to a specialty practice (a referral or emergency clinic), you won't find anyone else offering this level of care.

As this web site grows, we are asked more and more frequently "Why did you build this site?" This site exists for five reasons, presented in no particular order.

1. To provide general information about our practice
   Our advertising budget is small, and no one likes getting junk mail or spam. A web page is easy to maintain. It allows us to get our name out, and offer a very basic brochure with almost no publication cost.

2. To provide a glimpse of our philosophy
   There's more to providing a great veterinary service than technical proficiency. We hope our web site mirrors our practice philosophy. There's some humor here--we're not suffocatingly sterile, and we try not to take ourselves too seriously. This site has a lot of information, but it's presented in a simple format. We want it to be elegent--you won't find animated gifs, busy backgrounds, or flashing text (you can even navigate our web site with the Lynx Browser). We provide top-notch, first-rate service without the nonsense.

3. To provide general education for people searching for veterinarians
   In particular, we maintain our "What is a housecall vet?" section for people who surf. Our newsletters and publications are indexed with Yahoo!, AltaVista, and other major search engines to add content to the World Wide Web.

4. To provide resources for our clients
   Several of our clients prefer to read our newsletters on the web. We hope this is a trend!
